FOCUS CORRECTION AREAS
A key element of the Collins Writing
ProgramSM is its use of Focus Correction AreasSM (FCAs). Focus
Correction Areas allow students to systematically improve their
writing by zeroing in on a few key aspects of their writing with
each assignment. By using the focus area approach, students concentrate on improving
only a handful of skills at any one time and never feel overwhelmed by
having to think about too many things when creating a piece of work. Over the course of the school year, students cover and master
numerous FCAs, resulting in significant improvement in their
writing abilities.
KEY BENEFITS OF FOCUS CORRECTION AREAS
- Emphasis on clearly specified writing criteria
- Development of individual writing style
- Promotion of content learning and critical thinking
skills
- Improvement of organizational skills
- Selective, manageable approach to correcting student
writing
